Stayed up till 2am to watch this Sunday night due to the DVR cutting off after round one of the main event…. It ALWAYS does that, don’t ask me why I can’t remember to record the next show just to be safe.
Let’s break it down.
Josh Grispi Vs. Jens Pulver:
Jens is my boy, I love that guy for so many reasons, but as he mentioned in an interview before his second match with Urijah, “Little Evil wasn’t a nick name, that was ME, my anger and desire to hurt something, but that’s gone now, I have not felt Little Evil for a couple of years….”
For better or worse, he has lost the fire he had to fight, he needs to find a new drive or it’s time to concentrate on coaching, maybe announcing, SOMETHING, please don’t be the grisly vet they toss to all the prospects to get some name recognition.
And for his part, Josh was great, I really feel for him though, he had just won, and you could see he felt TERRIBLE about it, that’s gotta suck! LOL
Donald Cerrone Vs. James Krause
COwwwwwwBOI!! Seriously, as a TapOut show watcher I have known about Cerrone for a while, he is a badass, and I love seeing someone of his determination fighting. I think he still needs to work on polish, but damn watching him stalk Krause like some sort of caged lion was awesome, I can’t WAIT to see him fight Varner again!
Jose Aldo Vs. Cub Swanson
Ok, I will admit, I had no idea who Jose Aldo was……. but that’s kinda the point of tossing him at someone like Cub. Holy….Sheet…. This fight, while OMG short, is a perfect example of why I love the light weight classes, “Don’t Blink” for real! Yeah I know Aldo VS Brown is prolly coming, but damn I wanna see Aldo vs Faber, Mutant Speed Factors For the WIN!
Mike Campbell Vs. Anthony Pettis
Mike Campbell is another of my TapOut show guys, he is going to be great, but he is really green, I mean diving into a guys triangle 3 or so times in a row, in under 2 minutes, you are gonna get caught…. Good fight Pettis though, gotta love any finish, and I love a good triangle!
Scott Jorgensen Vs. Antonio Banuelos
Antonio “The Iceman’s Man Servant” Banuelos, another Tapout guy, he has had some mixed time in the WEC, but he always gives it 150%, glad he got a win, even if they fight did drag on…
I am not one of those guys that keeps my own scoring, if you let it go to decision you deserve what you get as far as I care, fight still beat 99.9% of TV
Mike Brown Vs. Urijah Faber
Appetizers are over with, time for the reason we all tuned in…..
Urijah Faber, the mutantly quick and creative, often thought “King of the 145s” is back for his belt.
Mike Brown, the effin wrecking machine, ready to keep the belt and shut up any and all “Fluke” or “Lucky” talk.
Both of these absolute badasses had just decimated their last opponent in the first round, they both have something to prove, and they both are in their prime, this promised all the fireworks you could ever expect from the WEC.
And boy did it deliver!
I won’t bother speaking too much about the exact events, watch it, read about it from play by play guys, that’s not my gig.
I will say this, a few people have commented something like “If Urijah didn’t get hurt it woulda been different!” Yeah maybe, but he DID get hurt, and he DID go the distance, and that is awesome no matter how you slice it! As Mike Brown put it, him and Urijah are the top two at 145, at least in North America which is all that really matters here, and they will meet again, Urijah a little healthier, Brown a little more prepared for that mutant speed…….
I.Simply.Can’t.WAIT!
