Heartless Libertarian has a Responsibility VS Duty VS Wants issue.
Summary:
HL is an Army Officer commanding a Basic Training company, and he feels like he is not living up to his end of the GWOT. (Global War On Terror)
You can read his post here.
I commented there as well.
I have a friend who was actually a reservist, and he has been considering getting back in to go to the sand box. As I have told him over and over, “You are the one that has to make, and live with that decision.” Talk to your loved ones, decide on the compromise, cause you will have to make one, somewhere.
I hate to try and make what I do seem important, or great, or even crucial in any way. Yet on the flip side a lot of people and customers depend on me to keep my little sphere of influence running smoothly, so any computer savvy person COULD do this job, it is MY job right now, and I do my best. We can’t all be soldiers, we can’t all be heroes, we can’t all be the prosecuting attorneys. Someone has to be Mr. Average Joe, that’s my co-workers and me.
Believe me, I have every ounce of respect for all of the above, and I generally consider such people better than I in many respects, but someone has to keep the home fires burning, even if my job is just a twig here or there in the grand scheme.
Maybe I am just in denial, certainly a possibility if it is contagious.
